Solar water boilers are a cheap and effective means of heating water. The only problem is that sometimes you end up with a system that just does not work. Whats more there is no easy way to fix it. That's exactly what happened to me. The preinstalled solar heating system in my condo has a shared solar array on the roof with each tenant having an individual water tank that is heated by the closed circulation system. The hot water is pumped from the roof to the tanks and back again. The only problem is that the system has no way of knowing when to stop pumping. In a sense, the water is heated during the day and cooled once the sun is starting to set. The end result, you get home after work and you need to turn on the electric heater to take a shower. Having toyed with the idea of an automatic bypass valve controller I have finally implemented it. The system is based on an Atmega controller and a cheap cordless drill. The controller constantly monitors the temperature of the incoming water and opens/closes the bypass valve according to predefined settings

Scratch-Built RC Hovercraft

RC Hovercraft built from scratch, mostly of spare pieces of foam. The skirt is made from garbage bags. It has 14 one-inch diameter holes around the bottom. The lift fan is actually the case and fan from a computer box fan, with the original motor and wiring torn out. The fan's shaft is attached to a 7.2V motor that supposedly was for a cordless drill. Lift is powered by two 7.2V NiCads and the rest runs off a LiPoly. My apologies if the music scares you. :/

Ryobi 18 Volt Cordless Drill

I bought this Saturday at Home Depot for 69 dollars because i desperately needed a cordless drill to use although i still have plans to rebuild the batteries for the Craftsman set. This is the best value i found considering most cheap drills came with one battery, no batteries, or no chargers. This drill has just as much torque as the old Craftsman, and works just as good. The batteries are also alot cheaper, and can be bought at Home Depot. This drill also had great reviews to boot. Works great, and im happy with it so far. Enjoy!

Update Cordless Dewalt XRP 18 Volt Drill Back from the Shop

I bought this Dewalt drill at a yard sale for $8. It needed a new chuck. I took it to a local service center and they put a new Dewalt chuck on it for $64. This quality tool should give me many years of service. I can now get rid of my cheap Skill drill.
